Marcella Sopocy, 85, active church volunteer

Marcella Sopocy, 85, of Schaumburg and formerly of Riverside, died April 15, 2013.

Ms. Sopocy was born March 30, 1928 and in 1947 married Steve J. Sopocy, who preceded his wife in death. They settled in Riverside, where they joined Ascension Lutheran Church and became very active members.

She served on the Altar Guild for 30 years and ran the church's BEDS program for the homeless for 10 years. Ms. Sopocy also volunteered at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn and Ames School in Riverside for many years.

Ms. Sopocy was the mother of Paul (Colette) Sopocy, Cathy (Dennis) Finney, Steve C. (Ann) Sopocy, Dan (Robyn) Sopocy and the late Barbara Keeton; the grandmother of John (April) Keeton, David Keeton, Paul Sopocy, Gabrielle Sopocy, Caitlin (Jacob) Martens, Bridget Finney, Brett Sopocy, Alexandra Sopocy and Calvin Sopocy; and the sister of Lee Davenport.

A funeral service was held April 19 at Ascension Lutheran Church, followed by interment at Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
