Brookfield detectives continue to search for a man who eluded arrest after leading police on possibly two separate high-speed vehicle chases during the early morning hours of June 7.
Police reports indicate that around 3:10 a.m. an officer on patrol attempted to pull over a silver vehicle whose driver had committed unspecified traffic offenses while northbound on Prairie Avenue from Plainfield Road.
The vehicle did not stop and led police on a high-speed chase down side streets and then eastbound on Ogden Avenue to First Avenue, where officers terminated the chase.
Police later found the vehicle abandoned behind a building on West Avenue in Riverside, where it struck a tree. Officers reported recovering a gun from the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Palos Hills.
Several police officers searched the area around Riverside Swim Club, the BNSF Railroad bridge. Police requested BNSF to halt train traffic for a time while they searched along the rail line, but they could not locate a suspect.
About 3:35 a.m., a police officer observed a vehicle leave the parking lot at Stella's, 3903 Joliet Ave. in Lyons, at a high rate of speed. That police officer pursued the vehicle, along with officers from McCook, believing it to be related to the manhunt taking place in and around Riverside.
Police broke off the chase as the vehicle entered I-55 at LaGrange Road.
