This Saturday, June 11, 2016, the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and AMITA Health present The Regional Health, Wellness and Safety Festival at the McCook Athletic Expo, 4750 S. Vernon Avenue, McCook.
The free and fun festival addresses the complete, holistic health and life cycle of the community: from mental, physical, spiritual and financial wellness to information on kid and family safety and pet health. With over 80 exhibitor booths, cooking and fitness demonstrations, a Kid Zone, a Teddy Bear Clinic, cancer and blood pressure screenings, fire and police vehicle experiences, a food court and a roster of exceptional speakers, there is something for the whole family to enjoy.
“We all have a responsibility to help address the changes and challenges of the health care system facing families in our community, region, state and country. That’s why, for the first time, the WSCCI is very excited to be able to partner with Amita Health for this multi-community, multi-generational event, which connects our businesses with thousands of families in the region and vise-versa. It’s a win-win for everyone,” states Ken Grunke, Executive Director of the WSCCI.
Featured speakers will address many aspects of health and wellness, including addiction, disease and overcoming challenges.
Chicago Bears alumni, Adrian Peterson will speak about his life experiences. The four-time All-American former running back will share his stories of victory and struggle in a talk: Don’t Dis My Abilities. From struggles with his on-going challenges with stuttering to his infant daughter’s medical crisis, to inspiration he received from his faith and the embrace of the campus community, Peterson will share his motivational story.
Tim Ryan, Outreach Director of the Banyon Treatment Center and founder of A Man in Recovery Foundation, will speak about the epidemic of heroin and prescription drug use facing our communities in his talk From Dope to Hope – Helping One Addict at a Time. The Countryside Police Department will also have representatives present to discuss their Outreach Prevention Program and the use of Narcan.
Theresa Dewey, Manager Care Navigation and Early-Stage Engagement, Alzheimer’s Association. Greater Illinois Chapter, LCPC, ATR will address Alzheimer’s disease and caregiver stress in her talk: You Can’t Pour From an Empty Cup. A caregiver and patient with Alzheimer’s will also participate in the discussion.
