Louis M. Hernandez, Jr., 86, of St. Charles and formerly of Brookfield and Collinsville, died on June 25, 2019. 

Born on Nov.25, 1932 in Evansville, Indiana, he served in the U.S. Army and had a long career working for the Burlington Northern Railroad. 

Mr. Hernandez was the husband of Patricia (nee Richardson); the father of Sally (Ben) Firnkes, Heidi (Shea) Long, Patricia (Jim) Thames, JoAnne (Jim) Miller and Louis R. (Jennifer) Hernandez III; the grandfather of Anna, Katherine, Grace, Amelia, Christine, Hannah, Isabel, Lila, Louisa, Clarice and Vivienne; the brother of Debbie Matozzi, Nancy LaFrancis, Art Hernandez, Bob Hernandez, Susie Pederson, John Hernandez, Carol Hernandez, Vicki Suddreth, Lucille Stewart, Marge Murray and the late Frank Hernandez, Tom Hernandez, Bette Mersefreau and Mary Franson; and the uncle and great-uncle of many. 

A funeral Mass was celebrated July 1 at St. Barbara Church in Brookfield. Interment, with military honors, was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. 

Johnson-Nosek Funeral Home, Brookfield, handled arrangements.
