Brookfield All-Stars still alive in playoffs

The Brookfield Western Conference All-Star team came back from a 5-1 loss to Western Kentucky in Dodgeville, Wis., ove the weekend and defeated Southern Indiana 7-6 to stay alive in the Babe Ruth Baseball League Regional playoffs.

On July 28, the All-stars defeated Darlington, Wis., 20-0 in the first round of the Babe Ruth Regional playoffs. The game only went five innings, will all 13 Brookfield Western conference players playing without an error, and all 13 players reaching base at least once during the game. The winning pitcher was Dave Sopczynski, while little brother Brian Sopczynski got the save. Brookfield catcher Russman fired up the offense going 5-for-5.

The All-Stars also defeated Elgin to win the state championship in Danville on July 23rd. Brookfield won their first three games of the state tournament to get to the championship game defeating the Effimgham, Westmont and South East Suburban champions.
