Frank A. Mazanec Jr., 90, a resident of Lexington Square in Lombard and a former longtime resident of Riverside, died
Aug. 5, 2013.
Mr. Mazanec served in the U.S Army during World War II. After the war he joined California Manufacturing Company in Chicago, a millwork company started by his grandfather. Eventually he would become the owner of the firm, which was located at 23rd and Troy in Chicago, an area known as Czech California, since it was located in a predominantly Czech neighborhood near California Avenue.
On May 15, 1954, he married Alice Knaizl, and the couple made built a home in Riverside, where they lived for 53 years. Mr. Mazanec was an avid Chicago Cubs fan who also enjoyed pinochle, bowling, football and traveling with his wife. He was also a member of the Riverside Township Lions Club.
Mr. Mazanec was the husband of Alice Mazanec (nee Knaizl); the son of the late Frank A. and the late Emma (nee Kubat) Mazanec Sr.; the brother of the late Emily Mazanec, late Ethel (late Bill) Mortensen and late Gladys (late Ray) Jirsa; and the uncle of Cathy (Paul) Skrip, Cyndy Jirsa, David (Susan) Bloom, Jeff Bloom, Kent (Tona) Mortensen and Nancy Mortensen.
Services have been held. Entombment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park. Memorial donations were appreciated to a charity of choice.
