Mark J Lies, 92, former Riverside trustee

Mark J. Lies, 92, a lifelong resident of Riverside, died Aug. 7, 2013.

Mr. Lies was a certified public accountant who graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1943. He was a U.S. Navy combat veteran of World War II and a retired vice president of Hart, Schaffner and Marx.

Locally, Mr. Lies served as a Riverside village trustee from 1976 to 1985 and was active as a parishioner at St. Mary Church in Riverside. He was a former member and past president of the St. Mary Holy Name Society, former Cub Scout Master of St. Mary Pack 92, a former member of the St. Mary C.F.M. and chairman of the United Way.

He was the husband of the late Alice (nee Walsh); the father of Mark A. (Mary Beth), Donald (Trish), David (Linda), Josephine Lies-Doherty and Peter (Deirdre); the grandfather of Mark III, Elizabeth, Brendan, Ryan, Michael, Alyssa, Todd (Amber), Andrew, Sara (B.J.) Cotter, M.D., Bridget (Andy) Perkins, Colin, Nicholas, Gabriela and Marisol; and the great-grandfather of Alexandra and Catherine Lies and Lyla and Evelyn Cotter. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 13 at St. Mary Church, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorial donations are appreciated to St. Ignatius College Prep School or the Riverside Public Library.

Arrangements were handled by Riverside Funeral Directors, the original Kuratko Family.
