A 29-year-old Berwyn man remained hospitalized in serious condition on Monday after he was found lying unconscious on the long common in the 100 block of Nuttall Road after he apparently crashed his motorcycle on Aug. 16 sometime before 10:44 p.m.
Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said there were no witnesses to the single-vehicle crash and that a resident who happened to leave his home saw the man unconscious lying on the grass of the commons and called 911.
The crash victim was not wearing a helmet, said Weitzel, and he suffered serious head injuries. According to Weitzel, the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. Police have not had an opportunity to interview the driver yet, but it does not appear from the preliminary investigation that drugs or alcohol played a part on the crash.
Police have canvassed the block to see if any residences have security cameras that might have captured video of the crash. However, said Weitzel, the homes in that block are set far back from the street and it may be difficult to obtain any video evidence, should any cameras be present.
What police have determined so far is that the motorcycle was traveling south on Nuttall Road, approaching the Longcommon/Herrick Road intersection. The motorcycle hit the east curb and left the roadway, throwing the driver off the vehicle. The driver and vehicle were found in the same general vicinity.
