Brookfield police on July 31 arrested a 46-year-old California woman who allegedly had been running an illicit massage parlor out of a room at an Ogden Avenue Motel for about three weeks.

An undercover officer stumbled upon the business while investigating an unrelated case in the area, said Brookfield Police Lt. Edward Petrak. The officer reported seeing a man enter a room at the Colony Motel, 9232 Ogden Ave., at about 5:30 p.m. on July 31, and then leave a few moments later.

According to the police report, the officer confronted the man outside the motel and asked him what he was doing there. The man, a 43-year-old Naperville resident, reportedly told police he had answered an online ad for a massage and was instructed to go to a room at the motel.

However, “after looking at the female he decided not to go through with it,” the report states.

Police then went to the motel room and found the woman, a native of Malaysia, who told them she gave customers erotic massages for $130. Asked how many she had performed that day, the woman reportedly said she had one customer, and pointed to $130 in cash on the bathroom counter.

She denied any other type of sexual activity with her customers, according to police, although police reported discovering a plastic bag “containing a large quantity of condoms.”

Brookfield police also learned that that woman had been arrested for prostitution in Hoffman Estates in 2011.

In addition, police reported that the woman gave a home address in San Cavo, Calif., although a computer check by the Landmark failed to turn up a town in California by that name. The ZIP code given to police is for an unincorporated community called Florence, just south of Los Angeles.

The woman reportedly was in the country illegally, since her visa had expired. Police notified the Department of Homeland Security and the Malaysian consulate.

Police charged the woman with a misdemeanor count of prostitution; she was released after posting $150 bond and awaits an Aug. 27 court date at the Maybrook courthouse. Officers escorted her back to the motel, where she gathered her belongings and left the property.

The motel’s owner reportedly told police that a Flushing, N.Y., man with the same last name as the woman registered the room on July 10 and had prepaid for the stay. The motel owner reportedly refunded the woman the money already paid for future nights.

Police also discovered an online ad on the site Backpage.com purportedly from a 23-year-old Asian woman named Lucy, offering massages in Brookfield, Naperville and Chicago. All of the locations were reportedly along Ogden Avenue.
