Shirley Peters Fairvalley, 87, of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and formerly of Riverside, died Sept. 15, 2013.

She was born May 19, 1926 in Chicago to the late Ben F. and Mayme Peters, and was the sister of the late Don B. Peters.

Ms. Fairvalley spent her childhood in Berwyn and River Forest and attended Ferry Hall, a private girls college preparatory school in Lake Forest, where she graduated as class president in 1944. She attended college at the University of Illinois.

She spent a decade as a Realtor in Riverside and was a model for Bonwit Teller in Chicago and Oak Brook. A member of the Riverside Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society, she was also a member of the Sea Pines Country Club in Hilton Head Island.

Ms. Fairvalley was also an accomplished artist, who sold many original works. She also enjoyed sports and loved fishing in Canada.

She married Jay Fairvalley on Feb. 2, 1952. She is survived by her children, Jill (David) Fairvalley Griffith of Dallas and J.C. (Debra) Fairvalley II of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Schuyler McCoy Griffith, Rush Peters Griffith, Wallis Ann Fairvalley and Grant Peters Fairvalley; and three nephews, Kent Peters, Dr. Randel Peters and Jeff Peters.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 at Providence Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head, S.C., with a reception immediately following from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Harbour Town Grill.

Entombment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park. Memorial donations are appreciated to a charity of choice.
