Stanley J. Dvorak, 90
Museum volunteer, pianist
Stanley Joseph Dvorak, 90, of Brookfield, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Wheaton College where he studied the world of nature and science. Following college, he served his country in the Korean War.
In his spare time overseas in Japan he climbed mountains and enjoyed the marine environment that was for once close at hand. Following his service in Japan, he returned to Chicago where he became one of the first volunteers at the Field Museum of Natural History in the mid-1950s. He was fascinated by marine life and continued to be a faithful, knowledgeable participant in the invertebrates department for over 50 years.
Music was in his blood. Mr. Dvorak was an accomplished pianist, trombone player, and enjoyed participating in chorale music. From enthusiastically transposing congregational hymns to being in the brass or worship band he passionately accompanied praise and worship to his God for over 60 years.
Mr. Dvorak married his bride, Anita, in 1954. Together for 65 years they lived lives of service to God and compassion for others while raising their children. Stan's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have all enjoyed outdoor adventures with him and caught his love of nature and wandering off the beaten path.
He was the husband of Anita Ruth Dvorak (nee Oberg); the father of David (Lois) Dvorak, Ruth (Thomas) Marshall, Elisabeth Dvorak-Hervas and the late Peter Dvorak; the son of the late Stanley and the late Alice Dvorak; the grandfather of Jessica (Jarrett) Moyer, Jonathan (Gemma) Dvorak, Elizabeth Dvorak, Joseph (Sarah) Marshall, Thomas Marshall, Michael Marshall, Kara Marshall, Christopher Hervas, Elinor-Vivenne Hervas and the late Faith Hervas; the great-grandfather of Gabrielle and Samuel Moyer; the brother of the late Carol (George) Henriksen; and the uncle of Cherie (William) Hess, Cyndie (William) Allen, Thomas (Suzette) Henriksen, Timothy (Cassie) Henriksen and Robert (Gretchen) Henriksen.
