Riverside officials warn residents of utility scam alert

The Village has been advised of a scam involving individuals calling utility customers and threatening disconnection of utility services such as electricity unless the caller receives immediate payment, typically through an untraceable non-refundable method such as Visa or other pre-paid cards, PayPal or wire transfer. The callers are using the names of local utility companies. Residents are advised to hang up and place a call directly to their current utility company if they receive a phone call and believe they are current on their utility bill.
