Brookfield Zoo Chicago guests can now buy tickets, view maps of the park and learn about its animal residents on the go.

The zoo announced Wednesday it had launched a new mobile app as the “ultimate guide” to its attractions. The app is available to download for free on iOS, Android and other smartphone platforms.

The app is useful for zoo-goers before, during and after their visits. To prepare for a day at the zoo, guests can use the app to plan an itinerary, search for specific animals and buy their tickets.

After they arrive at the zoo, the app contains a GPS-enabled, interactive map that can direct guests from one attraction or exhibit to another. It also highlights daily events and animal experiences so guests can make the most of their trip to the zoo.

When guests are ready to leave, the zoo’s app can show them nearby dining and shopping opportunities.

After their trip, guests can use the app to learn about exclusive offers, the zoo’s conservation efforts, the animals it houses and any news from the zoo. Guests who are feeling generous can even use the app to donate to the zoo directly.

According to the zoo, membership cards and account information will be integrated into the app over the coming months.

The launch of the app “marks a significant step forward in enhancing the guest experience at Brookfield Zoo Chicago,” said Andrea Rodgers, the zoo’s senior vice president of guest experience and operations, in a written statement. “This launch is a key component of a broader digital transformation planned for our programs as well as areas across our campus, with many more innovations to come.”
