Winning three relay events helped propel the Lyons Township swim team to first place at its own invitational on Saturday.

The Lions captured first by scoring 262 points, mostly by winning the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Kevin Brosnan, Ross Ford, Brian Kelly, and Paul Wierdak took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.81.

Wierdak, Kelly, Mike Donatelli and Pete Cosentino swam to first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:32.79.

The 400-yard relay group of Patrick Donovan, Kelly, Pat McGrath and Wierdak timed out at 3:22.59.

Wierdak also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :23.2, and McGrath won the 100-yard freestyle in :50.85. 

Split decision for RB

The Riverside-Brookfield girls’ basketball team split a two-games-in-one-day event for the Sweet 16 tournament at Lake Zurich on Saturday.

RB fell to Buffalo Grove 59-52 in the first game, but regrouped to crush Stevenson 53-37 in the second game.

The Bulldogs pushed their undefeated record to 6-0 in the Suburban Prairie (East) Conference on Jan. 26 by downing Ridgewood 63-52.  

Maggie McCloskey nearly coveted a triple-double in the win, finishing with 19 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds and four steals. Erin Pfieffer added 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Katelyn McCloskey scored 12 points for the Bulldogs, who were awarded a No. 3 seed in the Lyons Township Sectional.

LT clinches

Lyons Township clinched a share of the West Suburban (Silver) Conference on Saturday with a 36-29 victory over Hinsdale Central.

Mallory Heydorn led the Lions (20-6, 10-1) with 13 points, four steals, and four assists.

Lyons also defeated Barrington 54-38 in the Sweet 16 tournament on the same day.  

RB moves to 5-0

 The RB boys’ basketball team remained perfect in the Suburban Prairie (East) Conference with a 65-48 victory over Ridgewood on Friday.  

The Bulldogs (11-6, 5-0) took a 16-6 lead in the first quarter, only to see Ridgewood close to within four to start the fourth. But RB held on thanks to the play of Alex Devaris, who led the team with 19 points to go along with his nine assists.

Tyler Kos added 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Chris Parrish chipped in 11 points for the Bulldogs.

On Jan. 25, the Bulldogs took a 20-2 lead in the first quarter en route to a 71-50 walloping of Lemont. Mike Halusek seemed to be everywhere on the court. The senior had 15 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Devaris scored 13 points, to go along with seven assists and four steals. Kos tallied a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, including seven on offense in the first half.

The Bulldogs host Latin tonight (Wednesday, 7 p.m.), and Elmwood Park on Friday (7 p.m.), before traveling to La Grange on Saturday to take on neighboring rival Lyons Township (7:30 p.m.).
