Arthur J. Horne, made maps for D-Day invasion
Arthur J. Horne, a longtime North Riverside resident, died March 11, 2005 at his home.
Mr. Horne was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, and worked as one of the topographers who drew maps troops used for the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. He was a member of the VFW Post #6869.
After the war, he worked for his entire career at Dresser Industries, retiring as the company’s sales manager. He was also a member of the Mater Christi Church Holy Name Society and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Horne is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (nee Graham); his daughter, Pat (Dennis) McVeigh; his sister, Lorraine Luther; and his grandchildren, Erin and Art Horne. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sue Horne-Camp.
A funeral Mass was celebrated March 15 at Mater Christi Church, followed by interment in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

Nicholas C. Velisaris, 81, Western Electric retiree
Nicholas C. Velisaris, 81, a 50-year resident of Brookfield, died at his home on March 9, 2005.
Born Oct. 3, 1923 to Christos and Georgia Velisaris, Mr. Velisaris was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for 31 years in quality control at Western Electric in Cicero, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Velisaris is survived by his wife, Panagiota Velisaris of Brookfield; his daughter, Georgia Velisaris of Brookfield; his son, Chris (Mary) Velisaris; his grandchildren, Christopher and Madalyn Velisaris; and his three brothers, John, Tom and Costas Velisaris. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Dina Mekus.
A funeral service was held March 11 at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Westchester, followed by interment in Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.

Anne J. Rogers Kraft, 81, raised in Riverside
Anne J. Rogers Kraft (nee Hultgren), 81, who lived for many years in both Riverside and North Riverside, died Aug. 22, 2004 in York, Pa., where she lived for the last few years of her life.
Born in Chicago on Sept. 9, 1923 to Claes and Emily (nee Burgess) Hultgren, she grew up in Riverside and attended Riverside-Brookfield High School. She later lived for many years in North Riverside, where she raised her family. In the early 1980s, after her children were grown, she moved to Grant’s Pass, Oregon, where she lived some 20 years.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (Steve) Hunter, Bruce Kraft, Claudia Dail and Janet (Thomas) Schaefer; seven grandchildren, one great step-grandchild; her sister-in-law, Irene Rogers; her twin brother, John (Dorothy) Hultgren and brother Claes (Carol) Hultgren; three nieces and two nephews.
A funeral service was held Aug. 26 in York, Pa., and her ashes were scattered, per her wish, into the Pacific Ocean at Whaleshead Beach on the Oregon coast.
