While it may seem odd, the Berwyn Cicero Council on Aging (BCCOA) is moving to North Riverside.
After residing at 5817 W. Cermak Road in Cicero for the past 30 years, the non-profit group for people 50 and older will move less than two miles west into rental space at MB Bank, 7222 W. Cermak Road. The Cicero Town Board recently bought the agency’s current property for $599,900 as part of the town’s long-term revitalization plan.
“We don’t know how long we’ll be in North Riverside,” said Sarah Saenz, who is the assistant executive director for the BCCOA. “The fact that we’re now going to be in North Riverside for a little bit makes things interesting because of our name. But our board is going to meet to decide what we’re going to do about that.”
North Riverside Village Administrator Guy Belmonte said he was unaware of the BCCOA moving to North Riverside.
“It’s news to me,” Belmonte said.
Saenz added that while the agency will operate in North Riverside, it will still focus on serving seniors from Berwyn and Cicero.
“Our grants from the state and federal governments are to serve the people in Berwyn and Cicero,” Saenz said. “When you receive funds from the state and from federal funds, you have an outline as to what you can use them on. But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”
