Jane Simpson can run fast.

The Lyons Township junior proved it Saturday at the West Suburban (Silver) Conference Meet when she finished first overall with a time of 18:12. The effort helped LT finished third as a team with score of 65. Hinsdale Central (53) and York (52) rounded out first and second places, respectively.

Kathleen Flaherty finished eighth overall with a time of 18:54. A pack of Lions took 21st through 24th when Jessica Lee (19:40), Christine Farrell (19:43), Lauren Clark (19:44) and freshman Maggie McDonald (19:49) finished consecutively.

Bulldogs race to second place

Sheela led Turbek and Erin Sventy led the the RB girls cross-country team to second place overall at the Suburban Prairie (East) Meet on Saturday.

Turbek finished the race in 19:43, good for third place overall, while Sventy, who ran for junior varsity earlier in the year, finished in 21:32 for 11th place.

The Bulldogs gathered a total score of
56, while Lemont won the meet with a score of 18.

LT finishes second at State

The LT girls’ golf team placed second at the IHSA State tournament on Saturday at Stone Creek Golf Course in Makanda.

The Lions gathered a total score of 657. Heather Grant led the team with a 15th place finish. Grant finished the two-day tournament with a total score of 156. Other top finishers for LT included Allie Marconi (18th place tie, 158) and Alyssa Gaudio (26th place, 160).

Boys golf: Mike Harrison and Brenton Blakeman represented the Lions at the IHSA Class AA Golf State tournament held at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington over the weekend.

Harrison, a senior, finished 64 overall by shooting 74-84 for a 158 in the two-day tournament.

Blakeman, a freshman took 75th place with a total score of 160. Blakeman shot 82 in Round 1 and 78 in Round 2.

Both golfers shot 78 at George Dunn National on Oct. 11 to advance out of the St. Ignatius Sectional. As a team, Lyons finished seventh in the sectional with an overall score of 323.

LT unable to fend off DGN

The LT football team finally met is match in the West Suburban (Silver) Conference when the Lions traveled to Downers Grove on Friday night.

LT’s four-game conference unbeaten streak came to a halt with a 34-0 loss to the highly-ranked Trojans (7-1, 5-1).

Downers North’s Garrett Edwards, who has signed to play at Illinois next fall, through TD passes to Connor Lavallie and Justin Shelly in the first half. The strike to Lavallie was for 12 yards, while Shelly’s went for 55. Along with Edwards’ 7 of 10 passing for 114 yards, the senior also rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

LT dropped to second place in the Silver Division with a record of 4-1. The Lions are now 5-3 overall.

LT soccer prepped and ready

The LT soccer team prepped for the upcoming playoffs by winning the Waubonsie tournament over the host 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday.

Mark Zeman had the game-winning goal for the Lions, now ranked second in the state.

Zeman had scored earlier in the game as well. Tim Markham’s goal evened things out for the Lions at 3-3 with over three minutes left.

On Thursday, the Lions shutout Hinsdale South 2-0 in the tournament. Kyle Luetkehans scored the winning goal. It was the 11th shutout of the season for LT, which takes an overall record of 17-1-3 into the playoffs beginning this week.
