Despite the prospect of the village hosting a large-scale event at no cost, a majority of village trustees decided Monday night during their Committee of the Whole meeting that it would be best to skip hosting a mid-summer party in Jaycee/Ehlert Park in 2006, with the prospect of revisiting the issue later in the year.

The decision to take a pass on Brookfest in 2006 did not require a formal vote, and Trustee Linda Stevanovich was the lone member of the board who favored giving a revamped Brookfest a shot in 2006. But even her support for a revised festival was lukewarm.

“I’d have been in favor of it,” she said. “But I’m going to pick my battles, and this isn’t one of them.”
