The Riverside Brookfield gymnastics team won its own regional last week and advanced to compete in the Hinsdale Central Sectional last night (after deadline).

The Bulldogs were led by Dana Magyarics, who placed in five different events. The senior took first in both the vault (9.45) and the all-around (37.225). Magyarics also finished second on the bars (9.475) and the floor exercise (9.15). She placed third on the beam (9.15).

Other top finishers from RB included Rebecca O’Neal, Samantha Brown, and Nicole Rocconi. O’Neal, a freshman, finished second on the beam (9.175), and fourth in both the vault (9.15) and the all-around (35.80). Brown took fourth in the vault (9.15, tie), the bars (8.875), and the floor exercise (8.925). Rocconi finished third on the bars with a score of 8.975).

The Bulldogs garnered a total score of 144.3, while Andrew finished runner-up with 138.525.

Risley leads RB swimming

Graham Risley led the RB swim team to second place at the Independent Conference Meet on Saturday. Risley won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.94) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.90).

The Bulldogs, who finished with a score of 284, also took first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.94) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:21.47).

Oswego won the meet with a score of 315.

Skala leads Lions to regional title

Andie Skala swept the LaGrange Regional last week and led the Lyons Township gymnastics team to first place with a total score of 147.1.

Skala took first in all five events, including the all-around where she scored a 38.525. Skala scored a 9.7 on the balance beam and a 9.675 in the floor exercises.

WSC title goes to LT

The Lyons Township swim team won the West Suburban (Silver) Conference Meet with 291 points at Downers Grove North on Saturday.

LT’s Ross Ford won the 100-yard butterfly in 54 seconds. Ford was also a member of the 400-yard free relay team along with Joe Lladik, Sean Mulroy and Patrick Donovan that took first place in 3:18.86.

Lions drop to 13-7

The Lyons Township boys basketball team fell to Thornwood 51-49 in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Lions, who were led by Tom McMillin (12 points), are now 13-7 overall.

LT wrestles to third

The LT wrestling team finished third at the Willowbrook Regional on Saturday.

Tyrand Williams (31-6) finished first in the 186-pound weight class. Chris Cavallo (103-pound weight class) placed second, as did Ryan Lukanich (125) and Luke Gacek (152).

Free shots lead Friars

Accurate free throw shooting in the final quarter of the Fenwick boys basketball team’s showdown with Gordon Tech on Friday night in Oak Park led the Friars to a 59-50 victory.

Fenwick (12-8, 3-3), who let slip a 12-point lead at one point in the game, nailed 10-of-10 from the charity stripe in the fourth and Ryan Harbour scored five straight points to help the Friars earn their third Catholic League North win.

RB grapples to fifth

The RB wrestling team finished fifth at its own regional on Saturday.

The Bulldogs had five third place finishers, including three sophomores. Senior Kyle Kiburz finished third in the 145-pound weight class by forcing a fall at 1:19. Senior Drew Hunt (25-3) finished third at 171 pounds with a fall in 35 seconds.
