A Burbank man allegedly led Riverside police on a chase reaching speeds of 85 mph before he was apprehended after a brief struggle.

According to the police report, an officer clocked a 2005 Audi driven by Lukasz Bochenek, 26, going 75 mph in a 40 mph while southbound on First Avenue near Waubansee Road at 3:45 a.m. on May 20. When the officer gave chase, Bochenek reportedly accelerated to 85 mph and continued southbound before heading southwest on Plainfield Road and then turning down a dead end street and into a residential driveway.

The officer reported that Bochenek exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away, ignoring the officer’s command to stop. The officer reportedly threw Bochenek on the ground and handcuffed him. Inside the vehicle were four passengers-three adults and a 6-year-old girl.

Bochenek was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, speeding, resisting arrest and endangering the life of a child.

Battery, resisting

– Riverside police charged Brookfield resident Jan Minich, 40, with battery to a police officer, two counts of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after officers were called to the area of Longcommon and Nuttall Road just before 11 a.m. on May 15 in response to complaints about a man kicking recycling bins into the street and shouting obscenities at passing vehicles and pedestrians.

Minich reportedly told police he would not stop his behavior and that arresting him would be “an international incident” and was reportedly combative after police tried to detain him. Police later learned that Minich was a citizen of the Slovak Republic and contacted their embassies in New York and Washington, D.C. Minich allegedly refused to speak with embassy officials.

– Brookfield police charged 38-year-old Vincent Damico, of Brookfield, with three counts of battery after he allegedly struck three people during an argument on May 18 just after 7 p.m. in the 4100 block of Arthur Avenue. According to the report, Damico punched his fiancee’s ex-husband three times in the face and once in the side of the head. He also allegedly struck the man’s nephew and brother while trying to stop them from calling the police on their cellphones.

Damico left the scene before police arrived but was apprehended later in the 4200 block of Forest Avenue and identified by the victims as the person who struck them.

Theft

A resident of the 3100 block of Sunnyside Avenue, Brookfield reported to police on May 20 that someone had removed a Weber Silver Series propane grill, valued at $400, from the backyard of the property. The grill was taken between May 14-20, according to the report.

Burglary

An unknown person, in broad daylight, pried off the window of a 1997 Chevy utility vehicle parked in an alley in the 4100 block of Grove Avenue, Brookfield, and stole several tools.

The incident occurred between 11 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. on May 17, according to the report, which stated the vehicle was parked on the garage apron at the time. The window that was pried off the passenger side of the extended cab was found on the ground next to the vehicle.

The owner reported that the offender had taken a white bucket containing various hand tools and a large yellow case containing electrician’s materials.

DUI

Riverside police charged Mario Sandoval, 36, of Chicago, with aggravated DUI and several traffic offenses, after an officer reported seeing him driving a black Chevy Lumina with a flat front driver’s side tire eastbound on Ogden Avenue from Haas Avenue, swerving across traffic lanes and the double yellow line on May 15 at 2 a.m.

According to police, Sandoval initially gave the arresting officer a Mexican driver’s license bearing a different name. After failing field sobriety tests, he was taken to the station where a breath test revealed a blood-alcohol level of .236, which is nearly three times the legal limit.

Police learned Sandoval’s real identity by checking fingerprint records. They also leaned he had a previous DUI arrest and had a revoked driver’s license. Police also reported finding several unopened beer bottles and one open one inside Sandoval’s vehicle.

The Cook County State’s Attorney charged Sandoval with a felony count of DUI.

Criminal damage

A resident of the 9000 block of Monroe Avenue, Brookfield, reported that during the overnight hours of May 19-20, someone had damaged the windshield of a 1995 Chevy pickup parked in the rear of the property. According to the report, the driver’s side of the windshield had been struck twice by a blunt object.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside and Brookfield police departments from May 13 through May 21, 2007 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not been adjudicated.
