The North Riverside Friends of the Library made it a little easier for the Library Board to undertake the planned lower-level finish-out project, presenting a check for $8,000 to the library board at its May 14 meeting.
“Over the past years the FOL has worked hard to support various library activities and purchase needed items for our library through our fundraising book sales, the perpetual book sales and our antique appraisal nights,” said Mary Lou Marchetti, Friends of the Library secretary, in making the presentation. “We are a small group who have managed to rally additional volunteers to help us with these extremely successful undertakings.”
The North Riverside Public Library District is undertaking the project that will help alleviate overcrowding by converting unused space on the lower level into a new Youth Services area,
The new 6,750-square-foot Youth Services area will feature additional shelves for books, two study rooms, more computers for patrons and a separate Storytime Room for Youth Services programs.
Relocating the Youth Services section from the main floor to the lower level will allow expansion of the Adult Services and Young Adult sections.
Treasurer Adrienne Smith also represented the Friends of the Library at the presentation, which will be used to purchase a service desk for the new area and furnishings for the two study rooms.
