The Lyons Township Hall, 6404 Joliet Road in Countryside, has been designated an “early voting” site for the upcoming primary election.
Starting on Monday, Jan.14 through Thursday, Jan. 31, early voting will be conducted between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
The Township Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Voters still have the option of completing absentee ballots or they can instead cast their ballot in person at any of the 40 suburban Cook County early voting sites without having to provide a reason or excuse.
In addition to Lyons Township Hall, registered voters can also use other nearby early voting locations, including Berwyn City Hall, 6700 W. 26th St.; Stickney-Forest View Public Library, 6800 W. 43rd St. in Stickney; and the Maybrook courthouse, 1311 Maybrook Sq. in Maywood.
Grace period registration
For those who have not registered to vote in the Feb. 5 primary, regular voter registration ended on Jan. 8. However, Cook County has an extended grace period that allows county residents to register to vote through Jan. 22.
To register to vote during the grace period, unregistered voters must sign-up in person at the Cook County Clerk’s main office at 69 W. Washington St., Room 500, in Chicago.
Grace-period voters are not allowed to vote at the polls on Election Day or vote at an early voting site.
Rather they can either vote immediately after they register or receive an absentee ballot by mail.
