Andrea Skala led the Lyons Township gymnastics team to a first-place finish at the West Suburban (Silver) Conference Championship on Saturday.
Skala placed first in both the vault (9.65) and the uneven bars (9.475). She placed second in the all-around with a score of 37.45. Emily Urben placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 35.875.
The Lions finished with a top score of 144.225, while Glenbard West (143.100) and Hinsdale Central (137.325) rounded out second and third places respectively.
Time runs out for LT boys
The Lyons Township boys basketball team’s late rally in Friday’s West Suburban (Silver) Conference match-up with Hinsdale Central fell just a bit short.
The Lions (15-3, 5-2), who trailed for much of the game but rallied to within four with under a minute left, fell to the Red Devils 51-44.
Jeff Adams and Tim Cosentino led Lyons with 11 points apiece. The 6-foot-8-inch Adams also finished with 17 rebounds. Ed Viliunas scored nine points for the Lions, who regrouped to crush Proviso West 64-48 on Saturday night at home.
Next up for LT is a non-conference game at Hinsdale South on Friday (7:30 p.m.).
Friars enter rough waters
The Fenwick swim team fell to defending state champ New Trier 137-46 on Saturday.
The Friars finished second in the medley relay with Chris Wendt, Brian Barron, Dan Barron and Matt Napleton timing out at 1:43.01. Napleton also finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.11 seconds. Dan Barron secured points for his team by placing third in the butterfly with a time of 56.14 seconds, as did Brian Barron in the breaststroke (1:05.98).
The Friars host the Metro Catholic Aquatics Conference Meet this Friday and Saturday.
RB sophomores remain perfect
The Riverside Brookfield sophomore boys basketball team won its 18th straight game on Friday with a 70-21 victory over Elmwood Park.
The team’s 18-0 record is believed to be the best start to a boys basketball season at any level in school history.
Ryan Jackson led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while Nick Arias added 12.
