Brookfield resident Jane M. Brody’s blood-alcohol level was reportedly over twice the legal limit when she allegedly struck another vehicle while driving in the 3700 block of Prairie Avenue during a snowstorm on Feb. 1 just before 11 p.m.
Police said that Brody was driving a 2000 Chevy Cavalier and was headed northbound on Prairie Avenue when she was unable to stop before hitting a 2005 Chevy pickup that was making a right-hand turn into a private driveway.
After striking the truck, Brody’s car swerved off the roadway, struck a sign and came to a stop on the sidewalk.
Police determined that Brody appeared intoxicated and administered field sobriety tests, which Brody reportedly failed, at the police station. A breath test revealed her blood-alcohol to be .170, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08.
In addition to DUI, she was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and leaving the roadway.
DUI
Brookfield police charged Roberto Jurado, 23, of Brookfield with driving under the influence just after 3 a.m. on Feb. 7 after his car reportedly skidded into a snow bank and got stuck.
According to the report, the officer arrived at the intersection of Prairie and Brookfield avenues to find Jurado trying to push his car, which was running, out of a snow mound.
Jurado reportedly told the officer he lost control of his car while trying to make a left turn. Police administered field sobriety tests, which Jurado reportedly failed. A breath test later reportedly revealed Jurado’s blood-alcohol level to be .14, which is nearly twice the legal limit.
Since Jurado’s license was revoked and he lacked vehicle insurance, charges were upgraded to felony status.
Chicago resident Fred J. Marek, 48, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after police responded to a report of a reckless driver on Addison Road just after 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 8.
Police located Marek’s vehicle in the 2700 block of Harlem Avenue, reportedly crossing from one lane to another. The officer stopped the car and spoke with Marek, who reportedly said he had drunk a beer and had taken methadone.
He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and then was transported to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for a blood test. According to the report, Marek later told police he had also taken a prescription pain killer as well.
In addition to DUI, he was also cited for several traffic offenses.
Riverside police charged Chicago resident Isidor B. Gonzalez, 58, with aggravated DUI after an officer stopped him on Harlem Avenue near East Quincy Street for having just one working tail light on his 1992 Toyota on Feb. 9 just before 1:30 a.m.
According to the report, Gonzalez appeared intoxicated and did not possess a valid driver’s license or vehicle insurance, which led to the felony charge. A breath test reportedly revealed Gonzalez’s blood-alcohol level to be .141, which nearly two times the legal limit.
