Riverside-Brookfield High School christened its new swimming pool last week, putting a cap on Phase 2 of District 208 $64 million expansion and renovation of the school, which was made possible when voters approved bond issue in 2006.
Work on the swimming pool took about a year and opened just after the boys swimming season began for the 2008-09 season. The new pool is 41 yards long and has a moveable bulkhead to accommodate different competition and practice distances.
Teachers, staff, students and school officials officially opened the pool on Dec. 4 when members of both the girls and boys swimming teams dove into the pool.
While the pool itself is completed, school officials said, some portions of the project still remain to be completed. Work continues on the new pool locker rooms, which are expected to be completed by the start of the second semester in January.
The locker room work was delayed due to damage done to the lower level of the school during the September flooding.
