Two gunmen made off with an undetermined amount of cash after robbing the Riverside branch of Bank of America,

3300 Harlem Ave.
, this morning.

Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said that no shots were fired and no one was injured in the robbery, which happened at about 9:30 a.m. Police received multiple emergency calls that customers were lying on the floor of the bank and that a robbery appeared to be taking place.

Police arrived in one minute, Weitzel said, and the village also called the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System, which sent SWAT officers and K-9 units.

Weitzel said that five employees and two customers were inside the bank when two men brandishing chrome handguns announced the robbery. A third man was reported to be waiting outside the bank in a green vehicle.

As a precaution,
Riverside schools were locked down during the police action at the bank, which lasted until , when police announced that the bank was clear. Initially, police thought that the gunmen might still be holed up inside.

Harlem Avenue
was shut down both north and south of the bank until just after and commuter train traffic was halted on the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad tracks.

Police snipers were seen on the roof of Connie’s Restaurant across the street from the bank in
Berwyn and SWAT police searched the area near the bank for the suspects, who remain at large.
