A Rockford TV station is reporting that Riverside-Brookfield High School Superintendent/Principal Jack Baldermann is a candidate for the top post at District 205, a K-12 system in Rockford.

On Tuesday, WREX-TV reported that Baldermann “is said to be” a candidate for the job, though it did not reveal the source nor confirm that claim. The TV station also reported that Dennis Harezlak, superintendent of Winnebago District 323, was in the running for the job.

Harezlak has since confirmed he is a candidate for the position. Linda Hernandez, who has served as Rockford District 205’s interim superintendent since the district’s former leader left nearly two years ago, is also reportedly in the running.

Asked by the Landmark if he could confirm the TV report, Baldermann declined to comment. Nancy Kalchbrenner, president of the District 205 school board, also refused to say whether Baldermann is being considered for the position

“We are still in the process of the first round of interviews and hope to finish that this weekend and announce semifinalists next week, so we are not making any of the candidates’ names public,” Kalchbrenner wrote in an e-mail response to an inquiry from the Landmark. “That has not stopped some public discussions, but we not confirming any candidates’ identities.”

RB school board president Larry Herbst said the TV station’s report was “news to me.”

“I have not been contacted at all by a headhunter or Rockford,” Herbst said.

Last June, Baldermann was a semifinalist for a superintendent’s post in Green Bay, Wis.
