Following a month-long investigation initiated by Brookfield police, officers from the village and the suburban Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) on July 9 served a search warrant in Berwyn and apprehended a suspected drug dealer along with a stash of cocaine and thousands in cash.

Brookfield Police Chief Steven Stelter said Brookfield police developed a confidential informant and initiated the drug investigation, which included staging several undercover drug buys from the suspect in Berwyn.

Just before noon on July 9, police went to the apartment of 31-year-old Ronald A. Marquez, who lives in the 1600 block of South Harlem Avenue in Berwyn. Police reportedly found 316 grams of cocaine and over $3,800 in cash. Marquez was arrested at the scene and later charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, which is a Class X felony. He was also charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony.

He appeared in court at Maybrook on July 10, where a Cook County judge set his bond at $75,000. The next court date is Aug. 5.
