The Riverside-Brookfield boys and girls cross-country teams finished first at their respective Class 2A regional meets on Saturday.

Justin Pomey led the boys team by winning the regional outright with a time of 16:57. Dave Melone (17:29) and Peter Lyson (17:29) finished fourth and fifth respectively for the Bulldogs.

Riverside-Brookfield finished with 27 points, while Lemont came in second with 42.

Samantha Oberholtzer led the girls team by finishing first in 19:59. Kelly Glavin placed third for RB with a time of 21:03, while Sydney Oberholtzer finished fourth in 21:06.

LT football

The Lyons Township football team fell to Glenbard West 28-7 on Friday night. The Lions closed out the regular season with an overall record of 5-4 and a West Suburban (Silver) Conference mark of 3-3.

The Lions travel to second-seeded Bolingbrook (8-1) on Friday night (7 p.m.) for the first round of the Class 8A playoffs.

LT boys cross-country

Mike Moore and Robbie Kucera led the Lions to first place at the Lyons Regional on Saturday. Moore finished second overall in 16:12, while Kucera took fifth in 16:27.

LT soccer

The Lions crushed Juarez 7-2 to win the Class 3A Lyons Township Regional title on Saturday. Elliot Borge led the onslaught with two goals.

The Lions take on Fenwick today (Wednesday, Oct. 28) in the semifinal of the Hinsdale South Sectional.

Fenwick soccer

The Friars edged rival Oak Park 1-0 in double overtime to win the Class 3A Oak Park Regional on Saturday.

Fenwick boys cross-country

The Friars’ Martin Brady won the Fenwick Regional on Saturday with a time of 14:46. Bill Toohey finished second overall in 15:34.

As a team, the Friars finished runner-up to Oak Park with 33 points.

Fenwick volleyball

The Friars downed Bishop McNamara and Marian Catholic last week. Fenwick’s Kelly Brennan led the team to a 25-19, 25-16 win over McNamara with nine kills. Sarah Hunt added eight kills to go along with her five blocks. Carriann Soukal finished with nine digs and Nandi Tense chipped in five kills.

In the 25-17, 25-15 win over Marian Catholic, Tense led the way with 11 kills and five blocks.

Marotta named Player of the Week

Former Riverside-Brookfield High School athlete Mike Marotta was named Concordia University Chicago’s Player of the Week last week.

Marotta, a quarterback for the Concordia football team, threw for 411 yards and five touchdowns in the Cougars’ 41-32 win over Lakeland College.

As of last week, Marotta was 128-of-209 passing for 2,138 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season. He has led the Cougars (5-1) to their most wins in a season since 1992 and the conference lead in seven statistical categories, including points per game (31.2) and total offense (474 yards per game).
