Leonard F. Bares, 86, Shipping clerk

Brookfield resident Leonard F. Bares, 86, died Oct. 8, 2009 at Foster G. McGaw Hospital on the campus of Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Mr. Bares was born on Aug. 6, 1923 in Chicago to Frank Bares and Mary Jedrejas (nee Krzyzewski). Mr. Bares was employed as a shipping clerk. He was a member of the Elks Club of Park Ridge.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Bares (nee Ziller); his children, Leonard (Shelby) Bares of Brookfield and Donna Slomski; his grandson, Justin Bares; and his sister, Sylvia Steininger.

Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.

Fabian J. Bayag, 74, Played minor league baseball

Former Riverside resident Fabian J. Bayag, 74, of Miami, Fla., died Oct. 3, 2009 after a long struggle with heart disease.

Mr. Bayag was a natural athlete, excelling in whatever sport he put his mind to, according to family members. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during peacetime, earning the rank of corporal and showing his prowess on the baseball diamond.

After leaving the service, he played professional minor league baseball in the organizations of the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles. According to BaseballReference.com, in 1954 Mr. Bayag played for the Wytheville (Va.) Statesmen, the Orioles’ Class D Appalachian League affiliate, hitting .271 in 19 games.

When his playing days ended, Mr. Bayag remained in sports, joining Wilson Sporting Goods as a national sales representative and sports official.

Mr. Bayag was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Joan Bayag (nee Kwekeboom), who died in 2006.

He is survived by his children, Dane (Debbie) Bayag, Kristin (Joe) Mira, Brett (Deborah) Bayag, Dina (Manny) Riera and Zack (Jessie) Bayag; his grandchildren, Katie, Stephanie, Hailey, Kelsey, Dillon, Shane, Luke and Britton Fabian; his siblings, Carl (Roseann) Feibig, George (Mary) Hosso, Paul (LaNita) Hosso and Sandy Johnson; and many friends.

Services were held in Miami. Memorial contributions were appreciated to the American Heart Association or to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 11295 SW 57th Ave., Miami, Fla. 33156.

Carl O. Connell, 79, Owned plumbing business

Carl Orville Connell, 79, a resident of Las Vegas, died Oct. 22, 2009 at St. Joseph rehab center in Las Vegas.

Mr. Connell was born May 14, 1930 to Ross Jacob and Gloria Blanche (nee McLeod) Connell in Melrose Park. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as a boiler technician and later owned O’Connell Plumbing in the Chicago suburbs.

Survivors include his wife, Charletta LaVay Connell; five children from his first marriage, Gary Lee (Debbie) Connell of Wisconsin, Wayne Bradley (Anna) Connell of Brookfield, Linda Beth (Gary) Connell Warthen, Kevin Gregory (Lori) Connell and Robert Darrin (Pamela) Connell of Arkansas; six stepchildren, Michael Pieson, Darlene Palatine, Debra Connell, Robert Pieson, Tina Steger and Tracy Leviner; and his sister, Gloria Kathleen Connell Hein of Coal City, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Keith Edward Connell and his stepdaughter, Cheryl Keating.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Charlene R. De Torrice, 84, Riverside resident

Charlene R. “Lonnie” De Torrice (nee Danielson), 84, of Riverside, died Oct. 11, 2009.

She was born Sept. 29, 1925 and was married to Anthony De Torrice, who preceded his wife in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Calvin and Ronald (Shirley) Danielson.

Ms. De Torrice is survived by her children, Deborah (Barney) Dixon, Michael A. De Torrice, Ronald H. (Diane) De Torrice, Lisa (Joel) Hastings, Eric De Torrice and Daniel (Anne) De Torrice, and 16 grandchildren.

A memorial services was held Oct. 24 at the de Torrice home in Riverside. Memorial contributions were appreciated to Amvets at www.amvets.com.

David W. Miller, 87, Brookfield resident

Brookfield resident David W. Miller, 87, died Oct. 20, 2009.

Born on July 13, 1922, Mr. Miller was married to Carol Miller, who survives her husband.

He is survived by his children, David (Karen) Miller, Charles (Linda) Miller, Michael Miller and Judy (Gus) Vlahos, eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services have been held. Burial was at Clarendon Hills Cemetery.

William Pisoni, 62, Riverside resident

William Pisoni, 62, of Riverside, died Oct. 7, 2009.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1946 to William C. and Marie Pisoni. He is survived by his mother, Marie Pisoni, and his sister, Arlene (Tom) Tomasik.

Memorial services were held Oct. 10 at Ivins Funeral Home in Riverside. Inurnment was at St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park.
