A man accused in August of pointing a loaded handgun at three people outside a Brookfield bar is back in state prison after entering a guilty plea to two felony charges earlier this month.

On Nov. 13, Cook County Judge Carol Kipperman sentenced Stanley Wisniowicz, 47, to seven years after Wisniowicz pleaded guilty to being an armed habitual criminal, a Class X felony, and to possession of a stolen firearm, a Class 2 felony.

Wisniowicz, who was on parole and reportedly was staying with relatives in Brookfield at the time of his Aug. 4 arrest, is in custody at the Pinckneyville Correctional Center.

According to Brookfield police, Wisniowicz got into a verbal altercation with three people outside of an Ogden Avenue bar in the early morning hours of Aug. 4 and pointed a loaded .45-caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic pistol at the trio.

He fled the scene before police arrived and was not in possession of the gun when police found him at the corner of Eberly and Ogden Avenues in LaGrange. A police dog located the handgun about two hours later behind some bushes near the Brookfield Moose property in the 4000 block of DuBois Boulevard.

Police learned that the gun was reported stolen by a Brookfield resident whose home had been burglarized in July. When found, the weapon had six bullets in the clip and one in the chamber.

When arrested, Wisniowicz was on parole for a 2008 theft conviction. Since 1986, he has been in and out of state prison. In 2001, he was convicted of three counts of residential burglary and sentenced to 10 years. He was previously convicted of residential burglary in 1987 and 1997.

Burglary

A resident of the 8800 block of 44th Place in Brookfield reported to police that between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Nov. 16 someone broke into his home and stole various home electronics items.

According to the police report, the wood frame of the back door to the residence was split. Taken from the bedroom immediately west of the door were two Apple laptop computers, a Nikon camera, an iPod Touch and a computer mouse.

A Brookfield homeowner living in the 3400 block of Sunnyside Avenue reported that between 9 p.m. on Nov. 18 and 3 p.m. on Nov. 19, someone pried open the locked service door of his garage and removed two bags of hand tools and several power tools.

DUI

Brookfield police charged Cicero resident Marisol Loya, 24, with aggravated driving under the influence after an officer reported her driving erratically on Nov. 18 just after 3 a.m.

The officer reported Loya’s silver 2004 Jeep SUV traveling 41 mph in a 30 mph zone and drifting between lanes while eastbound in the 9000 block of Ogden Avenue. Her blood-alcohol level was reportedly .147, which is nearly twice the legal limit of .08.

Because Loya did not have a valid driver’s license, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved upgrading the DUI charge to a felony. Loya was also cited for speeding and improper lane usage.

Chicago resident Jasmond L. Thomas, 25, faces a charge of DUI after a police squad car reportedly had to swerve out of the way to avoid being sideswiped by Thomas’ 1998 Buick LeSabre just before 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 20.

An officer driving northbound in the 3400 block of Maple Avenue reported seeing the Buick speeding southbound toward him, and straddling the double yellow line. After swerving out of the way, the officer made a U-turn and curbed Thomas’ vehicle in the 9200 block of Washington Ave.

Thomas reportedly failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of .143.

Riverside police charged Brookfield resident Benjamin W. Kasper, 29, with DUI after he allegedly drove his 1994 Chevy utility truck into a parked car in the first block of Forest Avenue and fled the scene.

Police responding to the scene at 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 22 reported seeing a gray Hyundai SUV with heavy rear-end damage pushed into a tree. Engine fluid led eastbound down Forest Avenue and then northbound on Longcommon Road, crossing Harlem Avenue.

Berwyn police reported locating a white truck with heavy front-end damage at a gas station at Riverside Drive and Cermak Road. Its driver, Kasper, allegedly appeared intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests but refused a breath test.

In addition to DUI, Kasper was cited for several traffic offenses.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside and Brookfield police departments from Nov. 15 to Nov. 22 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
