St. Louise de Marillac School in LaGrange Park got a welcome Christmas present last week, when a representative from the General Mills Corporation dropped off a check for $25,000 courtesy of the company’s Box Tops for Education program.

Shera Balgobin from Boxtops for Education presented the big check to Principal Michele Bancroft at an all-school assembly on Friday morning in the St. Louise Parish Center.

According to Bancroft, the school’s name was chosen at random from online entries in the “Big Clip Sweepstakes,” which Box Tops for Education held from June 30 to Oct. 31. Brookfield resident Margaret Wasielewski, who has two kids at the school, and LaGrange Park mom Karen Lattyak, made sure to enter St. Louise online every day.

On Nov. 2 Box Tops for Education drew the names of the one grand prize winner and two first place winners, with St. Louise claiming one of the latter.

Bancroft said that the money would be used to buy books and software for the library, update the computer lab and buy new textbooks.
