North Riverside’s Komarek eighth grade girls basketball team broke its own most single-season wins record – 14, set last year – this season by tallying 16 victories.
The Lady Wildcats went 16-5 this season, including a runner-up finish in the Salt Creek Valley Conference with an 8-2 mark. The team also finished second in the SCVC Tournament held at Riverside-Brookfield High School, winning four of the six games played.
The Lady Wildcats won the Morton College Henry J. Vais Girls Basketball Tournament with victories over St. Leonard, 33-12, Freedom, 24-10, and Unity, 20-12. Co-captain Caroline Waas (25 pts.) and seventh graders Tiana Little (20 pts.) and Natalia Gheewala were selected to the all-tournament team.
Other team members include Damika Henry, Amy Zyck, Sami Mitchell, Amy Frey, Charli Breaux, Marisa Jensen and Natalie Beresheim.
