John C. Lewe Jr., 88, Standard Federal Bank retiree

John Charles Lewe Jr., 88, a longtime resident of Riverside, died Feb. 8, 2010.

Mr. Lewe was born Feb. 3, 1922. His family moved to Riverside when Mr. Lewe was 2, and he lived in the same home on Akenside Road for 82 years. In recent years he moved into a condominium on East Burlington Street.

He met his future wife, Marjorie, at the Big Ball Park in Riverside during the summer they graduated from eighth grade. They shared homerooms and had lockers next to each other while attending Riverside-Brookfield High School.

During high school Lewe, who had an avid interest in flying, earned his pilot’s license. He graduated from RBHS in 1940 and attended Lyons Township College for a time.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewe married on Sept. 6, 1944 while Mr. Lewe was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Prior to joining the Air Corps in 1943, Mr. Lewe had signed on with the War Training Service, which was instituted to help train flight instructors for the Army. He was stationed in Missouri during the war, and was discharged in 1946.

After the war, Mr. Lewe joined Standard Federal Bank as a savings officer and then as a loan officer. He worked for the bank for 42 years. After retiring from the bank, he continued to work as a private real estate appraiser.

He was also active locally as a member and past chairman of the Riverside Caucus Executive Committee, the St. Mary’s Mission Club and Choir, the Riverside Township Lions Club, the Men’s Forum at Riverside Presbyterian Church, the Chicago Glider Club, a barbershop quartet and the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Lewe (nee LeClerc); his children, Kathleen (Steven) Feary, John C. (Peggy) Lewe III, Timothy (Kristine Komperda) Lewe and Marjory (Earl) Brady; his grandchildren, Laura Feary, Michael (Lynne) Feary, Mark (Christine) Feary, John C. (Rachel) Lewe IV, Brandon Lewe, Christopher Lewe, Andrew Brady, Samantha Brady and Ian Brady; his great grandchildren, Owen Feary, Sumner Feary, Lanie Feary and Kate Lewe; and his sister, Clara (the late Joseph) Gubbins.

Funeral services have been held. Memorial contributions were appreciated to the Riverside Presbyterian Church.

Catherine DeLegge, 91 Brookfield resident

Catherine DeLegge (nee Terrulli), 91, died Feb. 8, 2010 at her home in Brookfield.

Ms. DeLegge was born in Chicago on Nov. 1, 1918 to John and Philomina (nee Delo) Terrulli. She married Peter DeLegge, who preceded his wife in death.

She is survived by her son, Anthony DeLegge of Brookfield. She was preceded in death by her son, John DeLegge.

Funeral services and interment were private.
