A 68-year-old Brookfield woman has been missing since April 13, Brookfield police reported today. And with efforts to find her during the past six days meeting with no success, police this afternoon issued a public alert.
Barbara Leahy, a resident of the 3500 block of Sunnyside Avenue, was reported missing at 9 a.m. on April 14. Police said she lives with her sister, who called police. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a short-sleeved green shirt, a yellow jacket and carrying a handbag. Leahy does not drive and does not have a car. She uses public transportation to get around, police said.
She is 5-foot-3, weighs 100 pounds, has a thin build, brown eyes and long gray hair. Leahy has not been seen since cashing a check for $8.90 at the First National Bank of Brookfield and then waiting at the PACE bus stop nearby.
While Leahy has gone missing in the past, police said, she has never been gone for so long. She is taking medication for anxiety and nervousness, according to police.
Brookfield police have already entered Leahy’s information into LEADS, the statewide computer network operated by the Illinois State Police. Police have held off issuing a more public alert, said Deputy Police Chief Jeff Leh, because detectives were working on local leads and had no recent photo of Leahy.
On Monday afternoon, police released a flier with a grainy photo of the woman taken by a bank security camera.
Anyone with information on Leahy’s whereabouts is asked to call the Brookfield police at 708-485-8131.
