A spokesman for the the Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed that 38-year-old Bashar Fakhouri, of Alsip, died last night as a result of his wounds. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Fakhouri, known to customers as Bob, was inside Phoenix Liquors, at 8814 Ogden Ave., when two men reportedly attempted to rob the business. At 10:27 p.m. Friday, Brookfield police got a 911 call about shots having been fired, according to a press release issued by the police department this morning. K-9 units and officers carrying automatic weapons scoured the area looking for the two suspects, who reportedly fled north on foot along Custer Avenue. Ogden Avenue between Custer and Prairie was closed to traffic until well after midnight.
Brookfield police Lt. James Episcopo confirmed that a handgun had been recovered from the area, but declined to provide additional details.
“We recovered a weapon, but we’re still investigating what the weapon may have had to do with our incident,” Episcopo said.
