Motorists and pedestrians in Riverside will need to watch out for a couple of waves of cyclists on Sundays in the coming weeks as two large bike events will be rolling through the village.
The first cyclists will pedal through Riverside on Sunday, Aug. 15 during the 6th Annual Wright Ride, a recreational tour sponsored by the Oak Park Cycle Club. The bike tour, named after architect Frank Lloyd Wright, includes a loop through Riverside, which is home to several structures he designed.
A rest stop will be set up in Centennial Park at the water tower. According to a press release issued by the village of Riverside, the ride begins at 6:30 a.m. and should end in Riverside by 2 p.m. Cyclists will enter and exit Riverside on Longcommon Road.
Then on Sunday, Aug. 29 cyclists participating in the 62-mile option on the Active Transportation Alliance’s Boulevard Lakefront Tour will ride through Riverside between 9 and 11 a.m.
As many as 400 cyclists could be descending on the village, according to a press release.
The Boulevard Lakefront Tour is a fundraiser for the Active Transportation Alliance, a Chicago-based organization that advocates cycling, walking and public transportation instead of relying on personal motor vehicles.
According to the organization’s Web site, there will be a rest stop for riders in Guthrie Park.
