Crews will begin work in and around Centennial Park in downtown Riverside on Sept. 27, Interim Public Works Director Edward Bailey said Monday afternoon. The work will begin that day, which immediately follows the annual car show, with an estimated completion date of Nov. 19.

Curb, sidewalk and pavement removal along East and Pine avenues will be the first order of business, said Bailey. In mid-October crews will install a new architectural lighting system to illuminate the water tower at about the same time repaving work should begin.

“We know it’s in a congested area and there are a lot of things to keep apprised of,” Bailey said.

Meanwhile, the water main project that has been ongoing in the downtown area for months is about to wrap up, Bailey said. Restoration of the parkways and roadways was scheduled to begin Tuesday. Also, work to abandon a 100-year-old water main between Forest and Pine avenues and to switch water service connections for homes in that area to an existing 12-inch water main is ongoing this week.

No parking is allowed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Forest Avenue through Friday.

Finally, Delaplaine Road grade over the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe tracks will be closed for about 10 days beginning after rush hour on Oct. 1 to accommodate repairs to the grade crossing.
