After a lopsided 7-0 loss to Glenbard South, the Riverside-Brookfield tennis team gave back what they had gotten by shutting out Fenton 7-0. The team swept the field, including a hard-fought, three-set victory at No. 2 doubles by Caitlin Boxell and Brittany Janney.
The Bulldogs only got in one match at the Downers Grove North Invitational on Saturday due to rain. Riverside-Brookfield defeated Dundee Crown 4-1.
RB volleyball
The Bulldogs went 2-1 on Saturday at the Maine East Demon Invitational, defeating Normal West, 25-22, 25-22, Oak Forest, 25-21, 25-21 but falling to De La Salle 22-25, 27-29.
Riverside-Brookfield (9-7) was led by Elena Duve, who finished the tourney with 36 kills. Alleigh VandeMerkt finished with 78 assists and 10 aces, while Erin James tallied 67 digs and Kelsey Egger 15 blocks.
RB soccer
Ruben Chavez’s goal in overtime gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 victory over Illiana Christian on Thursday night. Hrvoje Zolo and Tyler Polanski scored the other two goals for RB.
RB boys golf
Max Recht led the Bulldogs past Morton by shooting a 40 last week. RB defeated the Mustangs 166-183.
LT soccer
It looks as though the Lions won’t get to defend last season’s Pepsi Showdown title, not after suffering a 2-1 loss to Morton in overtime in the semifinals on Saturday. It was Lyons’ first loss on the season. The team is currently 8-1-2.
Lyons Township’s Kyle Kurfirst made the game-winning goal in the quarterfinals to edge Downers Grove North 2-0.
LT volleyball
Jocelynn Birks tallied 12 kills and Erin Juley dished out 29 assists in the Lions’ 25-18, 25-1 victory over Oak Park last week.
The victory pushed LT’s record to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the West Suburban (Silver) Conference.
Fenwick swimming
The Friars defeated Michigan’s Grosse Pointe South High School 121-65 last week.
“It was a lot of fun for the girls to get a chance to swim with athletes they did not know,” said head coach Renee Miller. “They really enjoyed the team activities from Friday night. It is becoming a good team bonding event.”
The team broke three pool records at the meet, including the 200 individual medley. Paulina Kaminski swam to a time of 2:12.27.
Fenwick volleyball
The Friars finished first in the Silver Division of the Asics Preview held at Mother McAuley. Fenwick went 4-1 at the tournament, falling only to Bellville East 20-25, 21-25.
Backed by Sarah Hunt’s six kills and Maggie Reilly’s 18 assists, Fenwick downed Whitney Young 25-19, 25-19 also last week. Courtney Ryan added four kills and libero Carly Kenny seven digs in the victory.
To start last week, the Friars lost 25-21, 19-25, 12-25 to Resurrection for the third year in a row. Kelly Brennan finished with nine kills and 10 digs. Ryan had nine kills as well, while Hunt finished with six.
Fenwick boys cross-country
Brixton Rill and Pat Yerkes led the Friars to fourth place at the David Brady Invitational on Saturday.
Rill finished sixth overall with a time of 16:52.4, while Yerkes took ninth in 17:04.8.
The Friars finished with 91 points. Lincoln-Way Central won the meet with a score of 56.
