Last year a friend of mine who could not find work got a job in, of all places, Iraq. After he arrived at his job destination, I asked him what he and his co-workers could use that was unavailable to them there. He e-mailed me a list of items which The Harmony Club of Chicago (a fraternal organization of the Electricians Union Local 134) obtained to send to Iraq.
I inquired at the Brookfield VFW how to go about sending these items and was given the name and phone number of Meredith Kelly. I contacted her and she immediately agreed to meet me and take care of shipping our package to our friend and his co-workers.
Over the course of the next 12 months, she met me many times to send packages, and she refused any offer of reimbursement for the shipping of our packages to the workers in Iraq. She also, on her own, sent items to make their lives over there better.
Her unselfish dedication to helping those in dangerous, far-away war zones will sorely be missed. The goal in life of most is to make a difference, and she has surely done that. Good luck and God bless you, Meredith, and thank you.
