Brookfield police have called a press conference for Friday at noon to announce a second arrest in connection with the June murder of Marilyn Fay, a part-time librarian and retired school teacher.

Police did not release any details regarding the arrest or any charges, but a police source confirmed that the person in Brookfield custody is the girlfriend of Steven Kellmann, who has already been charged with first-degree murder in Fay’s slaying. A spokeswoman for the Cook County State’s Attorney said that Bonnie Shelesny, 24, of Arlington Heights, has been charged with first-degree murder. She will appear in bond court Friday.

Police arrested Kellmann on June 14 at the Pink Palace Motel on Chicago’s Southwest Side after officers responded to Fay’s home in the 3300 block of Arthur Avenue and found her dead. Fay, 65, had been stabbed multiple times, beaten and suffocated, according to a county prosecutor.

Fay’s Jeep Cherokee was found parked on a street near the motel, and police found Kellmann in a room accompanied by a 23-year-old Arlington Heights woman. Inside the room police also found Fay’s keys, credit cards and cellphone along with blood-stained clothes and 40 bags of heroin. Police did not charge the woman at that time, but said the investigation would continue.

Kellmann, 31, has been in Cook County Jail held on $2 million bond since his arrest. He was indicted in July on 18 felony charges, including first-degree murder, home invasion, burglary, misuse of a credit card, armed robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 8 at the Maybrook courthouse.
