On Dec. 20 voting will wrap up for the BroadwayWorld.com 2010 Chicago Awards, which asks theater fans in the area to vote for their favorites out of 121 nominees in 25 categories, representing 57 shows in Chicago which opened between Sept. 1, 2009 and Aug. 31, 2010.

Brookfield resident Amanda Murphy’s musical four play, which was featured in the Landmark back in June, garnered a pair of nominations. Both Murphy and Jamie Campbell were nominated in the Best Work/Adaptation (resident) category, while Heather Bodie was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical (resident, non-equity).

As of Dec. 8, both nominations were in first place (Bodie was tied for first) in their categories. Votes can be submitted online at www.chicago.broadwayworld.com/

Township officials attend conference

Riverside Township trustees Ann Dynako Kubiczky and Wayne Gieseman were among the 1,000 township officials who participated in the 2010 Annual Educational Conference sponsored by Township Officials of Illinois in Springfield in November.

At the conference, Riverside Township received an award for completion of a minimum of 70 hours of educational credit by its officials during the last fiscal year. Kubiczky and Gieseman accepted the award on the township’s behalf.

On campus

Three local residents were among the 83 Fenwick High School students named Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Typically, about 10 percent of Illinois seniors gain this recognition. The students rank in the top 10 percent of high school seniors and selection is based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores and/or class rank at the end of the junior year.

Among those named Illinois State Scholars were Brookfield residents Keith Miller and Chris Prod and Riverside resident Carl Ramos.

Several Riverside residents were named to the honor rolls at Trinity High School in River Forest for the first block of the 2010-11 academic year.

Attaining First Honors (3.75 or above grade-point average) were juniors Olivia Jordan and Amelija Siliunas and sophomores Hannah Spohnholtz and Sarrah Spohnholtz.

Second Honors (3.3 to 3.7 GPA) went to junior Magdalena O’Connor and sophomore Samantha Liska.

Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park has announced its honor rolls for the first quarter of the 2010-11 school year.

On the A Honor Roll are Brookfield residents Shannon Cawley, Natalie Crisanti, Francis Czerwien, Rachel Dimaranan, Drew Dunker, Justin Letcher, Chris Mandziejewicz, Ryan Russ and Jacquie Skokna; Riverside residents Haley Croney, Andrew Golniewicz, Josephine Krajniak, Guy Merola and Peter Vrablik; and North Riverside residents Gianna Milaro, Samantha Wilcox and Sarah Wozniak.

Those on the B Honor Roll include Brookfield residents Christopher Crisanti, Patrick Kelly, Nicholas Kosenesky, Jacqueline Sukacz, Rebecca Sukacz and Daniel Wulff; Riverside residents Vincent Hartnett and Rachel Meyer; and North Riverside resident Joseph Nieminski.

Riverside resident Kimberly Schaefer was recently inducted as a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Tau Rho Chapter at Benedictine University in Lisle. Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society in education and elects individuals who exhibit the ideals of scholarship, high personal standards and promise in teaching and allied professions.

In an effort to raise awareness of and funds for a cure for prostate cancer, Lyons Township High School Director of Student Activities Peter Geddeis grew a mustache for the entire month of November.

He set and surpassed his goal of $500, collecting $540 by Dec. 1. Fund raised will benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Livestrong.

Two Brookfield residents who graduated last June were among the 223 Lyons Township High School students named Advanced Placement Scholars in recognition of their achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement program exams. AP exams are graded on a 5-point scale (5 is the highest). Most of the nation’s colleges and universities award credit and/or placement for grades of 3 or higher.

Emily Furjanic was named an AP Scholar with Honors by earning grades of 3 or above on four or more AP exams, with an average grade of at least 3.25. Meanwhile, Matthew Glowicki was named an AP Scholar with Distinction by earning grades of 3 or above on five or more AP exams, with an average exam grade of at least 3.5.
