Former Brookfield resident Cynthia E. Shaffer (nee Horonzy), 46, of Ottawa, died suddenly on Jan. 3, 2011, at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center.
Born in Oak Park on March 9, 1964, she grew up in Brookfield, attending S.E. Gross School and Riverside-Brookfield High School. Following high school, Ms. Shaffer followed in the footsteps of her father and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. She was a member of the Chicago Police Marine Corps League and the American Legion.
Ms. Shaffer is survived by her sons, Michael Carillo, Patrick Shaffer, John Shaffer and Donald Clark; her parents, Stanley and Gladys “Freda” Horonzy; and her siblings, Freda Naber, David Bixler, Paul Horonzy, Harry Horonzy, Steve Horonzy, John Horonzy and Kenneth Horonzy.
A funeral service was held at Ottawa Funeral Home on Jan. 10, followed by interment at St. Columba Cemetery.
