The West Suburban Conference doubleheader showdown between Lyons Township baseball team and Leyden lived up to its billing on Saturday.

The Lions (27-3) swept Leyden (24-4) 3-1 and 12-11 in a match-up between Silver and Gold Division champions. Zach Remigas (7-0) scattered five hits and struck out eight in a complete-game effort while Brian Rodemoyer and Spencer Mahoney added clutch RBI hits in Game 1. Dan Zehe and Mahoney scored on wild pitches in the final inning to pull off a thrilling Game 2 victory.

RB volleyball

The Bulldogs (23-10) won four of seven matches highlighted by a fifth place showing at the Willowbrook Invitational over the weekend. RB defeated Von Steuben 25-12, 25-17 in the consolation bracket championship. Elliot Louthen (100 assists, 33 digs), Gordon Fieseler (48 kills), Ben Bergrstrom (45 kills) and Alex Dziagwa (9 blocks) played well for RB last week.

LT boys water polo

The Lions rolled to a 15-5 win over Brother Rice in a sectional final showdown on Saturday. Kovas Zygas, David Sekula and Joe Shannon scored four goals apiece for the Lions. Lyons (29-2) advances to a state quarterfinals showdown against seven-time defending state champion Fenwick (33-0) on Friday.

LT girls track and field

Lyons had five girls qualify for state in seven events at the Bolingbrook Sectional in Class 3A. Julie Dambra advanced in the long jump (17-6.5) and the 400 (58.51) and Simone Bunsen advanced in the 100 hurdles (15.90) and 300 hurdles (45.92). Other state qualifiers included Nina Madjer, who won the high jump (5-1), Makayla Hubbard in the shot put (35-0.25) and Lisa Gordon in the 3200 (11:09.97). The LT 3200 relay team (9:34.90) is also headed for state.

RB girls track and field

The Bulldogs’ 800 relay team advanced to the state finals with a time of 1:47.53 at the Class 2A Glenbard South Sectional. Brenna Mossman also qualified by winning the long jump (16-0.75).

LT boys track and field

Lyons fell short of winning the West Suburban (Silver]) Conference Meet. York won the championship with 130 points, closely followed by LT (128.5 points). The Lions won the 3200 relay (7:52.9), while individual event winners included Matt Harris (110 hurdles/15.99; long jump/22-6.5), Alex Economou (800 meter run/1:59.94), and Sam Prentice (300 hurdles/40.66).

RB tennis

Riverside-Brookfield scored 14 points for a fourth-place finish at the Metro Suburban Conference boys tennis tournament.

LT girls water polo

The Lions’ dream of repeating their state championship ended with a 7-3 upset loss to Mother McAuley in Saturday’s LT Sectional final. Lizzy Kosin scored all three goals for the Lions (23-6-1). Goalie Grace Trilla had three saves.

LT girls soccer

Lyons (17-4-1) split a pair of games to close out the regular season. The Lions edged Glenbard East 1-0 in their Pink Out game, which helps raise money for breast cancer treatment. York beat LT 3-2 in double overtime in the other match. Kelsey Holbert scored a goal for LT.
