Hola, senors y senoritas! Grab your sombreros and spend an evening with a Mexican flair for the benefit of the Riverside Presbyterian and Christ Presbyterian Church of North Riverside.

The fiesta will take place at the Casa Hooglander at 375 Longcommon, la hora es (I think I have just used up almost all my high school Spanish, except the part about the burro) on Friday, June 17 from 5:30 to 11 p.m., rain or shine, so you might want to have a waterproof sarape on hand just in case.

The evening will include a Mexican buffet and a cash bar. (Did I hear margaritas?) Have your dancing shoes on so you can dance to the music with the DJ. This is also your opportunity to have a few salsa lessons, which will be available. All of this for only $25 per person in advance by calling 447-1520. Tickets will be available at the door for $30 per person. Leave the kids at home, because this is for those who are 18 and over, which is the category I fit in to.

The two churches, both members of the Riverside-North Riverside Covenant of Churches, decided to collaborate for the first time to benefit both congregations and spend time socializing.

No matter which church you belong to or what your religious tendencies may be, this is for everyone. Those involved hope that this will be only the beginning of working together on other possible fundraising or social events for church members and the community. From all I have heard, the Mexican fiesta is going to be muy bueno, and I wouldn’t want you to miss it. Adios from this subject!

Sign seen: Driving down Longcommon Road, I spotted a sign which read “open house” with an arrow. Not unusual but the arrow was pointing upward towards the sky and so I said to Husband Joe, “There must be an open house in heaven today, and isn’t that fitting since it is Sunday.”

Still don’t know where the “earthly” open house was. I’m sure someone who reads this column will let me know, but I kind of like the story about open house in heaven myself.

Best wishes: Not that I’m too cheap to send cards, but I just didn’t get around to it, so happy birthday wishes to Jeff and Adrienne Nichols and good friend Teresa Hall.

Also, big congratulations to Pat and “Doc” Agne of North Riverside, formerly of Riverside, who just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. To look at them they must have just been a couple of kids when they married. I guess that’s what a good marriage does for you! Congrats!
