Fenwick         18
Gordon Tech 13

Jack Stibich ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Fenwick football team to an 18-13 victory over Gordon Tech in Catholic League crossover action at Luther North on Saturday afternoon.

Stibich kicked off the scoring with 11:17 left in the second with an 11-yard touchdown run. After Gordon Tech went up 7-6 near the end of the first half on a rollout keeper by quarterback Julian Russell from five yards out, Stibich struck again. With 6:47 left in the third, the running back scored from three yards out to put the Friars up for good.

Fenwick’s Pat Hart, who has spent the last few games switching from quarterback to running back, while playing fulltime on defense as a linebacker, upped the Friars’ lead with a 6-yard touchdown run early in the fourth. The junior finished with 63 yards rushing on eight carries, including a 47-yard scamper two plays before his touchdown run.

“We’re going to look into giving Jack and Pat a more balanced amount of carries in the coming weeks,” said interim head coach Scott Thies. “They are both skilled athletes that already do a lot for us.”

The Rams, who scored with 1:35 left in the game on a 6-yard run by Russell, helped the Friars out by committing five penalties – including three-in-a-row for defensive encroachment, for 50 yards.

Fenwick racked up a total of 227 yards on the ground, and nothing in the air. Quarterback Dan Lattner went 0-for-5 passing.

“We started off slow, but figured out that the best thing to do was stay on the ground and go from there,” said Thies.

The Friars host another Catholic League cross-over game on Friday night (7:30 p.m.), this one against highly-ranked Loyola Academy for Homecoming at Morton West Stadium in Berwyn.

The Ramblers, who are 6-0, are coming off a 12-7 win over third-ranked Mt. Carmel last week.

“They are big, fast, and they score and defend,” said Thies of the Ramblers. “But we expect our kids to win.”

Running back Robert Spillane is likely to remain out this week with a shoulder injury.
