Kevin Wachtel, Riverside’s finance director since June 2006, is leaving the village at the end of the month for a job as finance director in Glen Ellyn.

Wachtel said he’ll begin his new position on Nov. 1. The Glen Ellyn Village Board is expected to OK his appointment at their meeting on Monday.

“It’s a very good opportunity,” said the 35-year-old Wachtel. “It’s a bigger town, bigger department.”

Wachtel came to Riverside from Palos Park, where he assistant village administrator. He said one of the things that intrigued him about the Riverside opportunity was the possibility of the village creating a downtown TIF district. That idea fizzled during his first year in Riverside.

“There were different challenges and projects that happened that were interesting. It’s been good, but it’s time to move on to different things,” Wachtel said.

He acknowledged that Riverside’s financial situation may have played a role in his decision to look around.

“There is some uncertainty here,” Wachtel said. “It’s [a] smaller [department], so the ability to fund projects and do interesting, new things is limited.”
