Two members of a teenage burglary crew convicted in September of several break-ins in Riverside and elsewhere and sentenced to probation are back in Cook County Jail after being charged with burglarizing a Forest Park home last week.
Cicero residents Fernando Orozco, 19, and David Cordero, 18, who were originally found guilty on Sept. 16 and given two years’ probation, were picked up by officers from the Forest Park Police department and the West Suburban Directed Gang Enforcement (WEDGE) task force on Oct. 27. Also taken into custody was Juan Miranda, 19, of Cicero. All have been charged with felony residential burglary.
Forest Park police responded to the 1400 block of Circle Avenue at 12:10 p.m. on Oct. 27 for a burglary in progress. At the scene, police found that the rear glass door had been shattered and the front door unlocked.
Video surveillance footage showed a silver Dodge Stratus driven by a female pull up at 11:41 a.m. and drop off two males who walked into the alley and then into the back yard of the residence. The two reportedly stole jewelry and electronics valued at more than $50,000, along with passports, a birth certificate and a green card, according to the police report.
Police noted similarities between the Forest Park burglary and the rash of burglaries that transpired in early 2011 in Riverside, Berwyn and North Riverside. Seven people, including Orozco and Cordero, were eventually convicted of those offenses and all were given two years’ probation.
The vehicle suspected of being involved in the Forest Park burglary was located in the 3200 block of South 54th Avenue in Cicero, and the three suspects were taken into custody at that location.
Orozco and Cordero’s bond were set at $500,000 and await a Nov. 10 court date. Miranda’s bond was set at $60,000 and also has a Nov. 10 court date.
