Riverside and Brookfield police started stepping up traffic safety patrols on Monday and will continue to have additional officers on the street doing seatbelt and impaired driving enforcement through Nov. 27.

The effort is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). IDOT provides grants to local police agencies to cover the cost of the salaries of the officers working the extra patrols.

In addition to police working their regular shifts, additional officers will be working on traffic enforcement only as part of the state grant program.
