Riverside police charged a 14-year-old Riverside-Brookfield High School student with disorderly conduct and possession of ammunition without a FOID card after school officials reported that the boy was carrying around a live 9 mm Luger bullet.
The boy is a resident of North Riverside. According to Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel, school officials acted after hearing rumors that the boy was showing off the bullet to other students in the school. A search of the boy’s locker turned up no additional ammunition.
“There was no intent to hurt anyone or do anything,” said Weitzel, who praised school officials for acting quickly and contacting police immediately.
